The Hogback – Legacy Cabin Model No. 4
Rocky Mountains, Colorado
Upon traversing the Hogback, on foot and wheels, one’s spirit flows up and down with the topography. This historical red sandstone Fountain Formation runs along Colorado’s Rocky Mountain Front Range. Trekking its course moves the body with a unique rhythm by pounding out your heartbeats one-by-one and setting the pace with your breathing. The landscape creates repetitive body movements while ascending and declining with the trails that maneuver between rock outcroppings and wooded knolls. Architect David N. Thermos, translated how the earth moved him into the unique design for The Hogback, Legacy Cabin Model No.4. Its rhythm, created the slopes of the roof pitches that match the ruggedness of the Hogback’s terrain. “There’s a uniqueness to this cabin model that I love. Its strength and rhythm remind me of a 1980s classic country music song,” shares David.

Cabin Design Details
A unique feature to this cabin model is a sturdy, support beam inside the cabin. It is the perfect accessory for a good ole hammock or hanging chair.
Four windows totaling twenty-eight square feet of glass area allows the perfect amount of natural light to enter into the cabin.
The shed roof accent awning offers additional shade at one of the windows and provides an architectural accent that breaks up the visual scale of the exterior walls. It is located off-center at the end of the cabin to balance the a-symmetry of the main roof when viewed in the opposite direction.
The attic floor, accessed by a ladder, is carved out of the interior roof space and covers 25 percent of the main floor area below. Approximately two and a half feet wide, it is intended to be primarily used for gear, food, and supply storage.
